Running away with the circus

Running away with the circus is by far my favourite concept. It's how I envision freedom, lack of responsibility and completely escaping from real life. It's also how I describe my own version of headspace when my best ideas randomly seem to materialise.

When I take time out from the everyday bustle of work, kids, and people in general to join my fictional circus buddies I tend to find that ideas come out of nowhere and projects I have been racking my brain over suddenly become crystal clear.

Don't get me wrong, as a mum of three with umpteen jobs, 'time out' generally means five hurried minutes in the shower, the drive between a football match and a meeting or a covert moment spent scoffing a creme egg in the pantry. It is no way indulgent but it's surprising what pops into your brain when you are least expecting it!

I recently discovered a new way of joining the circus, it's called 'parking five houses away from your house'. It's really simple, just finish work or whatever you are doing, drive almost home, take a breath, have a little think and then complete your journey home. Everyone at home thinks you are 'on your way'—which you technically are—and you get chance to crack that award winning campaign.

Thanks to the circus I have written (most of) a musical, created numerous ad campaigns, won a few pitches and produced some epic house point winning homework for a ten year old. Bring out the dancing monkeys.
